Kelly L. Swan Taylor

Kelly Lynn Swan Taylor counsels for-profit and non-profit businesses, as well as individuals, on a wide variety of legal matters in the areas of business, corporate and intellectual property law. Kelly assists clients locally and globally with intellectual property protection matters, entity formation, software licensing, patents, trademark development and protection, and copyright issues, including copyright licensing.

Before joining Shoffner & Associates in 2007, Kelly was a contract attorney with Black Duck Software, Inc. where she focused on open source and software licensing in addition to copyright law. Kelly’s legal experience also includes working with Exemplar Law Partners, LLC where she focused her practice in patents, corporate contracts, estate planning, real estate closings, refinancing and zoning matters.

With a bachelors’ degree in biology from Syracuse University, Kelly is uniquely positioned to help the firm’s clients. She has first-hand experience and a strong background in technology and science. Kelly worked in both industries prior to becoming a lawyer. Her experience includes work as a lab assistant at Wyeth-Ayerst Laboratories at Whitehall-Robins Pharmaceuticals where she performed stability testing for over-the-counter drugs. Additionally, she was responsible for building and implementing new SQL*LMS computer systems for laboratory use in quality assurance. Her first hand knowledge also includes being a lab assistant in a Biology laboratory at Syracuse University, conducting scientific research as a bioengineer. During law school, Kelly added depth to her legal background by acquiring EU and International law experience working with Barristers in London. Kelly’s multi-faceted insight allows her to efficiently and effectively guide clients through the business needs of technology and scientific ventures.

As a law student at Roger Williams University, Kelly dedicated herself to her community by volunteering both time and services. Kelly was elected to serve the Roger Williams University Law Honor Board to review issues involving the Law School’s Honor Code. Additionally, she held leadership positions on the Women’s Law Association, most notably serving as President from 2000-2003. Kelly was a member of the Student Bar Association and the Cyberlaw Society and published articles for the Student Bar Association Journal.

Outside of her law practice, Kelly is an avid runner, choosing to run frequent road races for charitable causes. In the past, Kelly volunteered her time with organizations such as the American Cancer Society and the Medical College of Virginia Hospitals. Additionally, Kelly was an active member in Tau Beta Sigma, a National Honorary Band Service Sorority, where she served as President and performed philanthropic activities with charitable organizations.

Kelly Lynn Swan Taylor earned her J.D. from Roger Williams University in 2003 and still resides in Providence, Rhode Island. Kelly is admitted to the Supreme Judicial Court for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Joshua S. Grubman

Joshua S. Grubman is an associate assisting firm clients with litigation, trust administration, family law, estate planning, transactional and probate matters. Committed to helping those in need, Josh sits on the Board of Directors for Safe Haven, Inc., a non-profit charitable organization assisting those affected by the HIV/AIDS virus. Before joining Shoffner & Associates, Josh was a law clerk focusing on insurance claims and settlement agreements. Josh earned his J.D. from Suffolk University Law School, where he was recognized with an award for oral legal advocacy. Josh earned his Bachelor of Arts from Bates College and is fluent in Spanish. He is admitted to practice in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, and he is a member of the Boston Estate Planning Council.
