Women’s History Month: Celebrate and Educate

March is Women’s History Month – It is a months long celebration of honoring the countless women who’ve made important sacrifices and contributions to society in both the past and present. Originally this celebration of empowerment and acknowledgment only lasted a week long in a school district in California in 1978. Then sometime around 1988-1994 congress passed resolutions in authorizing March of every year as Women’s History Month. It isn’t just about celebrating being a woman, but about how the women before and now tirelessly fought for equality and justice and opened doors of opportunity for future generations to come. For example, people like Harriet Tubman, Abigail Adams, Helen Keller, and Susan B. Anthony have all been inspirational and milestone breaking women. And are just a part of the many other women who’ve achieved something great in history. Despite the significant progress society has made and the acknowledgment of Women’s History Month, women and girls continue to face systemic barriers. So, this month as we continue celebrating women throughout our history and stories that still go untold. Let’s not forget those who perform critical work, including those who care for our children and our families, are too often overlooked, underpaid, and undervalued.
